welcome what's new background 10 reasons to build a kit car about me

I have always loved cars and driving, but I think the inspiration to build a car came from my high school years. I had a friend in high school, Phillip Ford, and his father was restoring an MG TC in the basement garage of their house. I can remember going down into the garage and pulling off the sheet covering this car. Month after month there would be more progress. It was a painstaking restoration ( he hand painted the lettering on the speedo because he couldn't source an original one), and it absolutely fascinated me.

Then I read Ron Champion's book (Build Your Own Sports Car for as Little as 250), and the seed was sown. It was now only a matter of time before i started my own project. The problem was my complete lack of mechanical skills. Building a Locost I could see would be the cheapest route, but I could see myself getting bogged down and abandoning the project. So I knew I was looking for a kit, and preferrably one which had a track record of successful builds and registrations here in Queensland.

So for me, the choice came down to either a PRB or a Westfield. The PRB looks very nice, and got a good write up in Australian Classic Car magazine in July 2002. However, the Westfield club seemed more active in Queensland, so the choice was made. With that out of the way, it was simply a matter of finding the money!
